This absolutely disgusts me.
They’re missing the point of The Hunger Games entirely, first off. Secondly, they’re trying to turn a spin on a fad, which in truth, is not even based on the romance part of the book/movie series. The Hunger Games is about a girl who becomes an unlikely hero, in a world of chaos and misfortune. It’s about a girl who doesn’t even want to be a hero, who doesn’t want people to look up to her. A girl who could care less about romance and dating, or princes. It’s about a girl who cares about nothing except the survival of her loved ones and herself. And they’re taking *THAT*. The most superficial, unessential part of the storyline and turning it into a TELEVISION SHOW?! Okay, sure. The blood and gore may disturb some people, but thats what its supposed to do! It’s supposed to show you that the world has come to a disgusting, pathetic, and dangerous time. Where they are all left to starve for their ancestors bad choices, and are punished yearly by the death of children in their communities. An event which is televised in hopes that the fear will discourage any thoughts of rebellion. The romance in The Hunger Games in the first book/movie was staged even. Katniss didn’t have romantic feelings for Peeta until, arguably, the middle of the second book or later. And even then, she didn’t care as much for Peeta or Gale in a romantic way, more as she just loved them because they were important to her, and that was what she was used to.
This entire idea disgusts me to my core. I can’t believe they would ever do something like this. But than again, I can. The world we live in now a days isn’t much different than the world of The Hunger Games. We all live in a Capatialistic Society right now. We cling to whatever is ‘cool’ at the time and are drawn in by it, just like the above article says. It’s pathetic. This is pathetic. And I think any true Hunger Games fan can see that in truth for what it is.
